Dr. Carla Givan mentioned in CanvasRebel Magazine

We recently connected with Carla Givan and have shared our conversation below.

Carla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.

When I decided to be a dentist many years ago, I always envisioned having my own practice. Thankfully, I focused on each step to get there instead of the grand picture. Knowing what I know now, surely, I would have thought it was too momentous a task to achieve. My advice to any young professional starting out is to dissect your major goal into step wise small goals with a timeline. Then do your absolute best to be successful at each small step. Success is in the details, the daily choices we all make. Train yourself to do what it takes to accomplish these goals you’ve set whether you “feel” like it or not. Feelings are fleeting, but your goals will remain the same.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Dr. Carla Givan. I am a general and cosmetic dentist who serves patients of all ages. My practice provides dental services including veneers, crowns and bridges, whitening, implant restoration, cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, partial dentures, root canals and many others. We are a small, private practice that focuses on quality dental treatment and high-level patient care. We are here to guide patients toward dental health and also help them overcome dental anxiety. What I am most proud of with Calm Dentistry is the number of patients that leave with positive and relaxing dental experiences that make them look forward to coming back. Dental health is a lifelong journey and we love building great relationships with our patients.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?

Sound dental training is imperative to a successful dental career. My dental school gave me a firm foundation of knowledge. The hundreds of continuing education courses that I’ve completed in the years since dental school have kept me abreast of the latest technology and treatment modalities. However, the most important thing that I gained throughout training was a sharp ability to critically think. Every single dental patient is different and presents with unique problems that need to be solved. There are so many ways to solve dental issues. My patients benefit from my knowledge and ability to stream clinical expertise into solutions that are specific to their needs.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

Calm Dentistry has grown organically thru word-of-mouth recommendations of our patients. The greatest compliment that our patients have given us is the referral of their loved ones and friends to our practice. We are so honored to care for the families of Grayson, Snellville, Loganville, Stone Mountain, Lawrenceville and surrounding areas.
