Modern cosmetic dentistry includes many options to help you achieve the smile of your dreams. Options to improve the appearance of your teeth include teeth whitening, clear aligners, replacing missing teeth and veneers.
Today we will discuss veneers
Veneers are thin shells of material that are bonded to the front of your teeth to correct color, shape, size and function. Veneers can be made of many materials including zirconia, emax, porcelain and composite. Chairside veneers are typically made of composite. Lab made veneers are made of the other materials mentioned.
Veneers are considered an elective cosmetic dental treatment and are typically not covered by dental insurance. Patients can correct gaps, crowding, staining and chips with veneers. As compared to crowns, veneers are less invasive, thinner and cover only the front portion of the tooth.
The process of getting veneers usually goes as follows:
- Consultation with the dentist to formulate a treatment plan to reach your goals
- Preparing your tooth enamel to make room for veneers
- Making an impression of your teeth
- Wearing temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are being custom made
- Trying in the veneers to confirm fit and appearance
- Permanently bonding the veneers
Veneers should only be done by a licensed trained dentist. Just as any medical procedure there are risks involved. If you have veneers done in a country outside of the US you should be prepared to go back to that country to have any complications or repairs addressed there.
If you are considering veneers the first step is to make an appointment for a consultation. During your visit feel free to ask any questions regarding cosmetic treatment options. Your ideal smile is possible!
